A fresh, colorful look

A brighter app, Classes and Departments, repeating events and search from anywhere. It is on its way as soon as Apple approves it.

This is a preview. Plans can change, and nothing here is final until it ships.

Flux Platform Administration

New

  • Reset your operator password with a 6-digit code you type in, as well as the link in the email.
  • The Audit Log now shows which operator did what on every row, and exports are described in it too.
  • When you ask a school for support access, its Senior Admins can approve it from their phone.

Improved

  • Times on the dashboard, the Audit Log and support-access expiry now show their time zone.
  • Remove admin, Cancel invite and Remove operator now ask you to confirm first.
  • A school's only Senior Admin can no longer be removed or demoted by accident.
  • When a form needs fixing, it keeps what you typed and says what to change.
  • Long lists, such as the Audit Log and school rosters, now show every entry instead of stopping early.
  • Banner start and end times follow your own time zone.

Fixed

  • A feature switch that could not save now says "Couldn't save - try again" instead of quietly flipping back.
  • Create school and Post banner can no longer be clicked twice by accident.
  • Security improvements.

School Administration

New

  • Approve or deny a Flux support-access request at the top of Manage Access, on the web or from your phone. Approved access lasts one hour.
  • Set up Classes and Departments with schedules and rosters, and repeat calendar events weekly or your own way. Available for schools that have turned them on.
  • Import a big roster, up to about 20,000 rows, in one go. Students are saved first and map locations fill in afterward.

Improved

  • Student grades now run from Kindergarten through Grade 12 when you add or edit a student.
  • Manage Access is now the one place for members, admins and invites. The old Members, Admins and Pending Invites pages point there.
  • Manage Access hides the buttons that would not work for a person, such as Change email.
  • Deactivated parents no longer get notices, polls and other alerts.
  • Audience rules like "Grade 3 except Chess Club" now compare children with children, so the right families are reached.
  • If someone's account is removed, the notices and documents they wrote stay, passed on to a school admin.
  • Calendar feeds you connect now drop events that were deleted at the source.

Fixed

  • Re-importing a roster no longer shows returning students beyond row 1,000 as brand new.
  • Security improvements.

Web Application

New

  • A new help page with step-by-step guides for signing in and getting started.
  • Release notes, right here, with a feed you can follow.

Improved

  • The roster and map grade filters now cover Kindergarten through Grade 12.
  • Class and organization rosters show the same student row as everywhere else, with photo, link and star.
  • Formatted text looks and edits the same on the web and on your phone.
  • Permission slip PDFs are laid out straight from your formatted text.
  • The Privacy Policy now explains how Flux support access and testing work, in plain words.

Fixed

  • Calendar and lunch menu lists no longer stop at 1,000 entries.
  • Security improvements.

iPhone / iPad App

New

  • A fresh, colorful look across students, staff, calendar, lunch menus, notices and documents.
  • Classes and Departments with schedules, rosters and their own pages, for schools that use them.
  • Repeating calendar events, with choices to change this event, the following ones or the whole series.
  • Search from any list to find students, events, menus, staff, notices and documents, even words inside formatted text.
  • Notices and Documents have colorful categories, and urgent notices stand out. Filter Notices by category or Urgent Only.
  • If you use an authenticator app, the app asks for your code when you sign in. You will be asked once when you first open this version.
  • School Admins can approve or deny a Flux support-access request from the Access screen.
  • Attach files when you create a Document.
  • Organization Editors can create documents and permission slips for their own organization.
  • The school calendar fits on one screen, and events can have a location.

Improved

  • Student grades run from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
  • Poll and sign-up times show in your own time zone.
  • The lock screen has a Use Passcode button for when your face or fingerprint does not match.
  • If you turn off your device passcode, the app switches off Face ID unlock and lets you in, with a note.
  • Signing out clears more downloaded content from your phone and your Apple Watch.
  • A change the school cannot accept while you are offline is set aside with a "Change Not Saved" note, and your note text can be copied.
  • The Apple Watch app shows "Open Flux on iPhone" until it has your data, and always shows the latest photos.
  • Choices in Shortcuts keep working after you switch schools.

Fixed

  • Tapping + in Documents or Sign-ups opens a form and only creates the item when you tap Save.
  • Deleting a lunch meal now really deletes it.
  • A photo picked while an earlier one was uploading is no longer replaced by the older one.
  • Searching a list no longer removes a parent's saved photo.
  • Fixed several crashes when something was changed or removed while you were editing it.
  • Security improvements.

Known issues

We are working on these.

  • On the two-factor screen, 1Password does not show its code suggestion above the keyboard yet. Copy the code in 1Password and paste it in, which works fine.
  • School admins still on Build 4: please update before editing formatted text such as notices and documents, because edits made in Build 4 may not be saved. Reading works as before.

For developers

  • The Developer Portal is now public: the API reference, the guide, the Design Specification and the MCP page all live at /developer.
  • Formatted text is now sent and received only as Delta documents. The plain-text body, description and biography fields are deprecated, read-only copies kept for app builds 4 and earlier, and will be removed. They are ignored in requests.
  • You can upload an attachment before the document or notice it belongs to exists. See the API reference.
